If you are going to do it, do it right! Such was the wedding of Jamie and Jason. J & J live down in Los Angeles, CA but they had there wedding up in Portland, OR where Jamie is from. I was so thrilled to fly up there, hang out with my best friend from college, Jeff and photograph this simply amazing wedding. We all stayed at the very hip Nines Hotel – a goldmine to shoot at, then off to the temple (where Jamie’s mom is actually the Cantor) and off to a reception site called Venue Pearl. The Temple was simply beautiful and the reception venue was in a cool industrial area which was very fun for photographs. J & J love photos and they were more than willing subjects. They will always have a warm spot in my heart as they are the subjects of one of my favorite engagement photos ever. Also, the gray skies made for some very easy photography.
I originally met Jamie and Jason because I photographed Jason’s groomsmen Danny’s wedding back in ’09. It was great to see Danny and his beautiful and crazy fun wife Jules as well. Originally, Natalie was going go come up and shoot with me, but at the last minute, it didn’t seem feasible. I ended up finding a fabulous 2nd shooter named Danya Schroeder. Danya is really a 1st shooter from Chicago who happened to have moved to Portland a few months earlier. I really lucked out finding her, I loved her blog and she could not have been more helpful and cool on the day of. It was fun to see how similarly we shoot! It was almost weird. She did a fantastic job with the groomsmen shots, I was so happy. Also, Jamie’s coordinator Nora from Bridal Bliss, was the sweetest person. Ugh, I love Portland. I wish I could do more weddings up there. Or at least come up for a longer visit!
