This is a photo shoot to celebrate 5 years of marriage for Elsa and Dave and they were all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. Originally we were supposed to do the shoot in Old Town Pasadena but Elsa really wanted a modern background as well and that is a bit challenging to find in that area. After many suggestions and a whole lot of location scouting on their part, I am really glad that they went with one of my suggestions and we ended up shooting at the Viceroy Hotel Lobby and then going to Santa Monica Place which Elsa suggested. It’s funny, it’s not that often that couples are super particular about their location. I mean, not that couples don’t have exact ideas, but Elsa really had something in mind and she went out of her way to find the right vibe.
Although I had photographed at the Viceroy a bit before, I had never really done a full shoot there so I was very excited. I absolutely love the decor there. Plus, I had never been to Santa Monica place. I had passed it before however, not knowing what it was, and had thought about how cool it would be to do a photo under those silver balls. Since Elsa, was so concerned about location, I did scout it before the shoot. My 4 year old daughter is always begging me to take her on photo shoots promising to be quiet and just watch. Unfortunately, at her current stage of development, I know this would never be the case – but scouting locations is actually a very fun thing I can do with her and she helps me pick out cool spots and takes photos of them with my I phone. For being such a good helper, not only did she score a pair of kids sunglasses but she also scored a frozen yogurt. I’m a sucker!
Congratulations Elsa and David for a great 5 years and a wonderful anniversary shoot. It was a pleasure to meet you and I wish you many many more years of marital bliss!

Great shoot!!
Did you have to get permission ahead of time from the Viceroy to shoot on their property?
