Maral and Hratch were referred to me by their friends Grace and Armand who got married in August. Aside from both being Armenian, they also have another geographic connection – they both married guys from New Jersey who moved to Los Angeles for them! (Nothing against New Jersey but, of course, how can you beat LA?!) When I began on this crazy journey of photographing weddings, I worked for a photographer who was big in the Armenian community. We probably photographed at least 20 Armenian weddings while I worked for him. I always found them to be some of the funnest weddings to photograph (in addition to being the longest and the most demanding!). Since I started my own business, I do a handful a year and it’s always a special treat for me. I just love all the dancing and the amazing energy at these events. I love the customs at the church and the fantastic formal attire that the ladies put on.
Maral was a very easy bride to deal with – just so lighthearted and funny. In addition to being a knockout, she has a super quirky side that made working with her a pleasure. Of all the couple’s I have photographed, their story might just be the sweetest: Hratch had met Maral’s mom on a flight from New York to Los Angeles where Hratch was visiting family years ago. Obviously, Maral’s mom was very taken with this young gentlemen, mentioned it to Maral, but years went buy and they never followed up with it. Years later Maral and Hratch met, the sparks flew, and turns out he had met her mom on the flight! Now is that Kismet or what?
As the ceremony took place at 6:00pm Thanksgiving weekend, and they did not want to see each other beforehand, we had to do all of their photos together at night. As they had guests all staying at the Roosevelt Hotel, and there was not a wedding there that day, we got to take the romantics there. Another act of Kismet….they lucked out!
This wedding was coordinated by the fabulous Christine of Fancy That Events
